Inclusive theatre • Since 2022

The Inclusive Company “Life Is Beautiful”

In December 2022, the inclusive theatre company Life Is Beautiful was established within the non-profit Life Is Beautiful. It brings together amateur actors with different disabilities and professional performers from Tbilisi theatres, including the Kote Marjanishvili State Drama Theatre and the Nodar Dumbadze State Youth Theatre.

The company helps people with disabilities who are interested in theatre take part in the performing arts and become more active. Its members train regularly alongside professional actors in acting, stage speech, choreography and vocal performance.

Higher arts education in Georgia does not yet provide accessible training for people with disabilities, and there are no professional theatre schools where they can study acting, stage speech and related disciplines together with their typically developing peers.

Life Is Beautiful

A stage production based on the screenplay of the Oscar-winning film Life Is Beautiful premiered at the Kote Marjanishvili State Drama Theatre. Nine amateur actors with different disabilities and seven professional actors were employed and performed in the production.

Support and a place in a state theatre repertoire

The project received financial support from Georgia’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and the Embassy of Israel in Georgia, with additional support from the Embassy of Italy in Georgia and the Georgian Theatre Society. Following the successful premiere, cooperation with the Nodar Dumbadze State Youth Theatre enabled an inclusive production to enter a state theatre repertoire.

The Servant of Two Masters

The inclusive company presented a new production of Carlo Goldoni’s The Servant of Two Masters at the Kote Marjanishvili State Drama Theatre.

Cultural and educational project • Since 2018

Come to the Theatre

Since 24 November 2018, the Foundation has run Come to the Theatre, a cultural and educational project designed to engage school students more closely with the life of the theatre.

After each performance, participants meet the actors and director face to face, join a discussion and communicate through a question-and-answer session. All ticket proceeds support urgent needs of beneficiaries and help protect their health and well-being.

A nationwide network

Theatres from across Georgia joined the project, and a memorandum of cooperation was signed with the Georgian Theatre Society.

The Threepenny Opera

A charity performance of Bertolt Brecht’s The Threepenny Opera was staged at the Nodar Dumbadze Professional State Youth Theatre. All proceeds supported socially vulnerable children.
